India’s newest deep-water transshipment port in Thiruvananthapuram officially opened on May 2, 2025. This state-of-the-art facility features a natural depth of 24 meters, India’s deepest breakwater, and the nation’s tallest STS crane—capable of handling the world’s largest container ships. 2. International Container Transshipment Port, Galathea Bay, India

A massive port project is underway on Great Nicobar Island, with initial operations slated for 2028. The first phase will handle ~4 million TEUs, expanding to 16 million TEUs in subsequent phases. Its location near major trade routes promises to bolster India’s transshipment capabilities.
